Conformance to create development industry for handicrafts

Handicrafts sector plays a very important role in generating employment and income for poor people in rural and mountainous areas, as well as export sectors bring high value to the country.

There are over 1,500 businesses and establishments engaged in the production and export of handicrafts, to generate income for the nearly 1.5 million workers and provides an annual export turnover of nearly 1.7 billion. In the trend of global economic integration, the international standard regulations play an important role for businesses in general and businesses in particular crafts. In the framework of the program "Support for Business Associations Activities for Development Effectiveness Dynamic and Comprehensive in Vietnam" was funded by the Australian Government and administered by the Asia Foundation, after more than a year of implementation Project, Export Association Crafts Vietnam has conducted many activities to assess the needs of the enterprise standard of Vietnam, conformance requirements of international importers so that construction the practical guide for businesses, organizations and training activities, advice on regulation conformance to raise awareness and support the implementation of standards in the business.

According to the survey results for 100 guests imports within the framework of international projects, most importers confirmed that the next 5 years they will work with a growing number of vendors adhere to the provisions of standard, including conformance to quality, social compatibility, environmental compatibility and conformance to security.

Up to 100% of customers confirmed that in the next 5 years at least 30% of their suppliers have to meet the standards conformance, 75% of customers requiring at least 50% of their suppliers must meet the requirements of the standard.

This really is a strategic change that businesses exporting handicrafts of Vietnam must meet in order to maintain and enhance its competitive position on the international market.

The project also supports the Association Exports Vietnam Handicraft build industry standards for 3 groups of mainly bamboo, ceramics and lacquer.
