The traditional rattan and bamboo handicraft village of Phu Vinh, Phu Nghia, Chuong My district, Hanoi city, 35 km from the center of the Capital in the southwest direction is known as one of the famous traditional trade villages of Hanoi. In 2002, Phu Vinh craft village was recognized as a traditional rattan and bamboo handicraft village with a long tradition of nearly 400 years.
Currently, Phu Vinh has more than 2400 households doing rattan and bamboo making with more than 4,200 regular employees, the average income is 3.5 million VND / person / month and there are 9 artisans who are honored with the title in it. There are 6 elite artisans. The traditional feature of Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo products is the shape, though simple and rustic, but the production technique is very delicate, requiring the meticulousness of skillful and skillful hands.
Previously, Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo products were mainly produced for daily life such as: baskets, gradually, sieves, bags, boxes ... Today, there are hundreds of models, types, all kinds of high technical requirements such as portraits, landscapes, couplets, bird or rattan products, and other interior furnishings such as lampshades, curtains ... are also produced. Export to meet market demand, favored by domestic and foreign consumers. Products of the village have been present in all continents in the world and penetrated into fastidious markets such as Japan, the United States and China.
Bao La village is a famous village with a traditional village of weaving rattan and bamboo products, making civil and fine arts articles, in Quang Phu commune, Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province. Market mechanisms and modern life have impacted on the traditional weaving of the village. Therefore, at present, there are many fine art rattan products in the village, in addition to traditional household products.
The quality of life of the people increases, the tastes of the customers are not only household rattan products but also require aesthetic, or a combination of both. Therefore, in order to introduce and promote their village's products, Bao La villagers were forced to develop more handicraft-oriented products and change the way they were organized. To meet the needs of customers in both quantity and quality in the new context. Currently, the trade village maintains two ways of organizing production, namely family production, households and production organized by Bao La Rattan Cooperative Cooperative.
In the past, the village's products were mainly from home-made rattan and bamboo, serving daily needs of each family, these products were considered traditional products such as: gradually types, flooring, types. baskets, pans, cones, nong, nia, baskets, reeds ... Today, following the orientation of restoring traditional professions, the local authorities at all levels have organized training courses on technology transfer for knitting products. new products, meeting social tastes such as flower baskets, decorative baskets, hanging lamps, etc.
Especially since Bao La Bamboo and Rattan Cooperative was established in 2007, there are more and more handicraft and rattan products with modern appearance, decorative lamps with different shapes and sizes. each other: hyacinth lights, hexagonal lamps, bamboo tube lights, bowl lamps, pomegranate lights ... fishery products such as racing gaskets, boats, fish pots ... for restaurants, hotels, cafes and serve tourists. The designs of bamboo and rattan lamps meet the needs of the market, the tastes of users in the current society, helping the traditional craft of the village not fade away and fade over time before the competition of products. plastic products, cheap.
In recent years, bamboo and rattan weavers in Cao Phong - Cao Phong commune, Song Lo district (Vinh Phuc) have had access to rattan processing technology. The rattan processing profession in Cao Phong is now considered to be more dominant, bringing higher income sources than other occupations, creating regular jobs for about 1,000 workers, with a stable income of 3- 4 million / person / month. The total annual revenue is about 25 billion dong. Currently, up to 80% of households in trade villages participate in home-based production, attracting many idle laborers, from the elderly to the children.
According to the statistics of Cao Phong Village Craft Village Association, the Rattan Cooperative Cooperative now has about 1,000 households engaged in rattan and bamboo weaving, of which there are two big enterprises producing rattan and bamboo products for export, namely Thinh Hoang and Tien Da. Every day, the whole commune produces tens of tons of rattan, serving local production and exporting to other craft villages inside and outside the province. Every year, the village produces about 500 thousand products, the main market for the Northern provinces such as Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ha Nam ... Many decorative handicraft products have High economic value exported to Japan and Eastern European countries. Thanks to the courage to develop the profession, up to now, about 95% of the commune's workers have regular jobs, collecting per capita is constantly increasing, reaching over 25 million VND / person / year, the percentage of households poverty reduced to 5%.
It can be seen that the current rattan and bamboo products are no longer rattan products, bamboos with the usual meaning but also the works of art, cultural values crystallized in them. With ingenious and ingenious hands, tinkering, creating each step, from rattan, bamboo, craftsmen, people have created products with natural charm that is very attractive, just worth using just use the aesthetic factor.

Currently, the company is exporting rattan products directly to countries such as England, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, USA, Japan and Korea ... The main products are lamps, types of trays, gift boxes, packaging boxes.
In order to develop rattan and bamboo handicrafts, local authorities and branches at all levels should urgently organize and strengthen trade villages, provide new training, improve skills for laborers in craft villages; planning material areas, focusing on quality, models, labels, technology investment and machinery. In addition, localities need to pay attention to directing the establishment of cooperative groups, cooperatives and businesses in trade villages to serve as "midwives" for craft and conservation trade villages.
