Striving to export wood products reached $ 10 billion

(Reuters) - Developing export markets contribute to achieving exports of timber and timber products reached $ 10 billion in 2020. This is the goal set out in the Action Plan developed markets wood and wood products period 2014-2020 which MARD has approved.
The plan also aims to enhance the value of production, business and plantation forestry sustainable development of economy, society and environment; mounted chain from planting, processing and marketing of products to enhance the value of forest products commodities, contributing to the successful implementation of "Restructuring Scheme Forestry", creating distribution channels for the timber market and domestic furniture contribute to the total turnover of the domestic consumption of wood and wood products to $ 4 billion in 2020.
One of the important contents of the Action Plan is to create distribution channels to develop the domestic market. Accordingly, the focus of investigation, the domestic market assessment of the distribution system interior woodwork, tastes, product lines, market segmentation, development trends; support associations, enterprises implementing trade promotion activities of timber and timber products through trade fairs as well as propaganda, raise consumer awareness about the Vietnam Vietnamese furniture.
At the same time, focus on export market development, research, survey opportunities to expand new markets for Vietnam furniture exports; construction and branding for a number of key product lines; supports a number of exporters of wood and furniture attend important international fairs; 2 organizations support forum of international timber trade in Vietnam to create favorable conditions for the Vietnam business contact with the timber supply and timber industries and importers of wood products in Vietnam.
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the current rate of consumption of furniture products produced in Vietnam compared with imported furniture is 40/60, up from 2009-2010 to rate ratio is 20/80.
In 2013 the total export turnover of Vietnam's forest products is $ 5.7 billion increased 19.2% compared with 2012, accounting for about 4.3% market share globally, ranking sixth in the world.
To 2014, namely the first 4 months of this year, exports of wood products and products reach nearly $ 2 billion, an increase of 24.45% over the same period last year, in April alone, exports items reached 521 million, up 0.4% compared with the preceding month.
For wood product exports in April reached 383 million, up 2.4% compared with March, lifting exports wood products 4 months to $ 1.3 billion, an increase of 24, 3% compared to May 4, 2013.
The first four months of this year, Vietnam exported wood to nearly 40 countries around the world, including the U.S. market accounted for a large proportion, 34.4%, equivalent to U.S. $ 677.6 million, an increase of 25.79% ; Next to the Chinese market, up 21.96%, turnover of 318.9 million.
Although the third largest exports, but exports to the speed of the Japanese market rose higher than the United States and China, up 30.06%, equivalent to U.S. $ 303.6 million.
In general, the first 4 months of this year, exports of wood and products are growing in most markets, some markets have a negative growth rate accounted for only 19.4%.
With the goal of reaching $ 10 billion and exports of wood products in 2020, Secretary General Association of Vietnam Timber and Forest Product (Vietfores), Nguyen Ton Quyen, confirmed to surpass this goal. Because the U.S. market, Japan, China are very bright for Vietnam's wood products; EU crisis has passed.
More importantly, in 2014, Vietnam will join the Economic Partnership Agreement Trans-Pacific Strategic (TPP). Many countries in the TPP as the United States, Japan, Australia, ... which is the wood product export market of Vietnam should focus once signed and in effect, the wood processing industry Vietnam will benefit greatly, thanks furniture export duty on many countries will be cut.
Vietnam Furniture more advantageous than the largest competitor is China, because China is not participating in the TPP. The TPP is committed to implement the reform will create transparent investment environment and competitiveness, which will attract more investments into foreign and domestic wood processing industry in Vietnam. Between now and 2020 to 6 years, believes that by then export furniture will reach 10-12 billion dollars. Commercial furniture worldwide reach U.S. $ 220-230 billion / year, of which the EU imported 90 billion dollars, the United States imported $ 25 billion ... Timber industry is promising to participate in the development of supply chain and global value chains. Exports of wood and wood products currently ranks 5th in 10 export sectors of Vietnam.
