Vietnam Joins ASEAN Furniture Industries Council

Mr Nguyen Chien Thang, President of the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh City (HAWA), said Vietnam had just become the 7th official member of the ASEAN Furniture Industries Council (AFIC).
Joining the council, Vietnamese furniture and handicraft companies will have more opportunity to cooperate with overseas companies, expand exporting markets and develop processing industries with AFIC member nations. With export turnover of US$3.3 billion in 2010, Vietnam has become ASEAN’s leading furniture exporter.
Mr Thang said Vietnamese wood processors and exporters will have to focus on human resource development, management and equipment investment to turn out higher-quality products, instead of quantitative development as seen in the past.
